Alyssa Hayes, MS, LPC, ATR-BC

Alyssa is the Clinical Director at Healing Sounds. She is a Board Certified Art Therapist and Licensed Professional Counselor. She received her Master's degree in Art Therapy and Counseling from Eastern Virginia Medical School. Alyssa has experience providing Art Therapy services to treatment resistant adolescents in residential behavioral health facilities and adults in acute psychiatric care. She assists individuals with managing work-related stressors, navigating LGBTQ+ identities, sexual exploitation, and substance abuse. She is an advocate for the profession and serves as the President of the Virginia Art Therapy Association. Her personal approach to art making has influenced an interest in researching and exploring the benefits of unconventional processes and materials with clients.

Alyssa works with clients ages 13 and up, and enjoys working with individuals to manage workplace stressors, navigate LGBTQ+ identities, sexual exploitation/human trafficking, and substance abuse.

What is your role at Healing Sounds?

I'm the Clinical Director at Healing Sounds supporting our therapists with supervision of cases. I also carry my own caseload as a Licensed Professional Counselor and Board Certified Art Therapist.

What is your preferred art medium?

As an unconventional artist, I'm often drawn to using found objects, cardboard, and plaster in my own art making process. 

What is something you like to do outside of work?

I enjoy traveling to new places with my friends.

What do you love most about working at Healing Sounds?

My favorite thing about working here is being around a lot of creative therapists and learning about their artistic techniques.

What should potential clients know about working with you?

I heavily utilize art making as a creative approach to treatment and enjoy introducing my clients to alternative styles of art making.

I accept self-pay, FAPT funding, and most insurances.
