Established in 2009, Healing Sounds has been proudly serving the Central Virginia Community, and outlying counties with integrity, quality and compassion.


Anna McChesney, MS, LPC, MT-BC

Anna is the Director of Healing Sounds, LLC and board certified music therapist, licensed music educator, certified rehabilitation counselor, and a licensed profession counselor in the Commonwealth of Virginia. She is a 2004 graduate of East Carolina University with degrees in Music Therapy and Music Education. Upon graduation, Anna completed her internship and contracted services though Musicworx of California in San Diego, California, where she served in diverse settings ranging from hospitals and cancer survival groups to public schools and private homes. Anna has extensive experience working as a music therapist, including providing therapy services and crisis stabilization to detained teenagers in the Richmond area. Through her work in state-operated programs within Virginia’s department of education, she has co-authored standards and a curriculum for art and music therapists in education programs as part of the regular school day. She coordinates and leads training regarding social and emotional learning, and speaks at regional and national conferences about her experiences in therapy. Additionally, Anna teaches at VCU, her graduate school alma mater, as an adjunct professor instructing music therapy coursework. She enjoys employing mindfulness based practices and helping others reach their best potential.



Daneyelle Elder, MT-BC

Daneyelle Elder is a multi-instrumentalist and singer. She is a violinist, pianist and guitarist. She discovered her passion for music at a very young age, singing and playing the violin at nine years old. Her passion for music led her to a pursuit of more musical training, and she attended and graduated from Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts in 2010. After completing training for her Music Therapy degree, Daneyelle traveled the country with recording artist Eddie James as a violinist and singer. After touring for about a year, Daneyelle returned to her hometown of Richmond, Va. She became a board certified music therapist in 2012. Daneyelle works at Healing Sounds, LLC as a music therapist. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, teaching music to young students and discovering new restaurants in Richmond.



Erin Mowles, MT-BC

Erin Mowles received her degree in Music Therapy from Radford University, then completed her internship at Hochstein School of Music and Dance in Rochester, NY. After becoming a board certified music therapist in 2014, Erin spent four years working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities through Meaningful Day Services in Indianapolis, IN. Erin enjoys working with a variety of populations, and is particularly passionate about helping people who have not yet found a reliable method of communication. She is proficient in playing the guitar, piano, ukulele, and alto saxophone, as well as some percussion. Erin is excited to be back in her home state of Virginia, and is looking forward to serving the greater Richmond community through Healing Sounds, LLC!



Leanna Caplan, MT-BC

Leanna is a board certified music therapist with experience in the mental health field. She received her master’s degree in Music Therapy & Counseling from Drexel University in Philadelphia. After graduation, Leanna worked as a music therapist at an inpatient psychiatric hospital in the Philadelphia area, where she also completed her internship. She has experience working with groups of adolescents and adults with diverse treatment areas including depression, anxiety, psychosis, substance use, and other needs. She also has experience working with children in a preschool setting and older adults in nursing home settings. Leanna is proficient in many styles of music on the piano and guitar, studied voice, and sang for five seasons with the Virginia Symphony Orchestra Chorus. Leanna is from Hampton Roads and received her bachelor’s degree from James Madison University. She is also a certified yoga instructor with an interest in incorporating relaxation and mindfulness techniques in her clinical work.
