Funding for Music Therapy

We are excited to share our newest resources regarding funding for music therapy services!

Private Pay/Out-of-pocket

Besides paying per session, we offer many packages throughout the year, as well as discounts for paying ahead for the month. Contact us for more information, or check out our registration page to pay for individual and group services online.

Health Savings Account (HSA), Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA), and Flexible Spending Account (FSA)

Music therapy services at Healing Sounds are considered a health/medical service, therefore we can process FSA/HSA/HRA debit and credit cards. You can pay with your card directly from our website, or we can provide a detailed statement for you to submit for reimbursement after paying through traditional methods.

Related Service on the IEP

When music therapy is provided as a direct related service on the IEP, it is deemed necessary for the child to benefit from their education program. The need for a related service is determined by an evaluation conducted by a Board Certified Music Therapist, and is then considered by the Interdisciplinary Team at the local school for addition to the student’s IEP. Please click here for more information on the process.

Core Medicaid does not cover music therapy services in Virginia at this time.

Individual & Family Support Program (IFSP)

Music therapy services may be paid for with funds from the Individual and Family Support Program (IFSP). IFSP assists individuals with developmental disabilities and their families with accessing person-centered and family-centered resources, supports, services and other assistance. The program's primary target population is individuals on the waiting list for Virginia's Developmental Disabilities (DD) Medicaid waivers. The application window is only open for a very limited time in the Fall, typically starting in October. To apply to IFSP, click here.
